These are my top 5 tips for new bloggers.
-
Know your goals. Be clear about what you want your blog to achieve. Will you use it to share photos and stories with families and friends? Do you want to give advice or post your views to others with similar interests? Or would you like to generate lots of traffic and ultimately make money from your blog? Your goals will influence things like the content, style, and perhaps other factors like marketing and search engine optimisation.
-
Have good content. Content is what makes your blog. As a new blogger, it’s a good idea to start with a subject that you’re familiar with. You may also want to try offering something unique. There are heaps of blogs out there – what will make yours different?
-
Update your blog regularly. What makes a blog different from other types of personal journals is that your postings are there for others to see. People are more likely to make return visits to your blog if they expect to see new content, so try to add new postings regularly.
-
Look at other blogs. Taking time to look at what others are doing can help give you new ideas. It also helps you get a feeling for what does and doesn’t work. You may also spot a niche that doesn’t seem to be met at the moment – again, it’s all about content!
-
Pay attention to detail. Make sure that links work, and that your content is as accurate as you can make it. Depending on your audience, spelling and grammar mistakes can make your content seem less credible, so it’s worth making sure you get this right.
